There's now another reason to be excited about the arrival of the freshly revealed Toyota GR Corolla. The automaker unveiled a new, even hotter and more-limited version of its spiciest hatch in a press release on Wednesday morning. Say hello to the Morizo Edition GR Corolla.
This new special edition, named after Toyota president and known car enthusiast Akio Toyoda—specifically, his racing code name "Mr. Morizo"—has the same 300 horsepower as the already unveiled Core and Circuit trim levels, but gets its torque figure bumped from 273 lb.-ft. to 295 lb.-ft. Toyota also says the new trim has a unique close-ratio manual transmission and shorter differential gears to improve acceleration. On top of that, the Morizo Edition sheds 106 lbs from the Circuit trim, bringing the number down to an estimated 3186 pounds. The lost weight primarily comes from a backseat delete, forged wheels, and the removal of rear speakers, rear window regulators and the rear wiper mechanism.
Underneath, the Morizo Edition gets two added floor braces, a strut brace in the rear, red monotube shocks, wider Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires and limited-slip differentials standard on both ends of the car. Otherwise, it gets the same GR-Four all-wheel-drive setup as the other GR Corollas. It also has same the forged carbon roof and vented hood as the Circuit Edition car, but gets a unique matte gray color option. For extra sportiness, Toyota decks the interior out by wrapping Ultrasuede around the steering wheel, shifter, handbrake, and red-and-black-trimmed seats. Charming.
This new trim level likely won't stick around for long. Toyota says it'll only build 200 Morizo Edition cars during the 2023 model year. It's unclear whether or not this special trim will live on beyond the launch year. Pricing has not yet been announced. If we had to estimate based on our estimations of how much the Core and Circuit trim levels will run, think somewhere north of $45,000.

It's unclear if Toyota will have any special ordering system in place for this low-run edition. Our recommendation? Start looking for a very friendly, deeply hidden, and well-connected dealer.
